Ten teams met Friday, 23rd of March 2003 at Wannsee in Berlin for the first One- Spring – Battle Matchrace 2003.
There were e.g. German Matchrace stars like Hendrick Witzmann, German Match Race champion 1999, Philipp Kadelbach, 2nd of the German Match Race Championship 2002 and Stefan Meister, Worldchampion h-boot and Summer Olympics 2000 participant.

The streamline was the boat of choice. The three-man keel boat proved itself in the last years already several times as ideal a boat for Matchraces . Especially with conditions, as on this weekend, with strongly turning and light wind, interspersed of gusts, the streamline proved to be the ideal choice of the organizer.

Because of these wind conditions the race was an open one. There was no warranty for the crews, to sail with continuous wind conditions.
There were 2 groups, with 5 teams each. In Group 2 the team "Grobe" surprisingly won against the local favorite Witzmann. Also the team Kadelbach, which was among other things organizer of the Match Race, had to fight against the unstable wind conditions and also against the good achievements of some teams and dropped out in the quarter final.

In the afternoon of the second day the temperatures rose for the joy of the numerous spectators, however the wind broke in completely, so that the Match Race had to be stopped briefly after 3 p.m.
Despite this early exit the "ONe Spring Battle" was a successful meeting, which will be established hopefully in the next years as season prelude.
